About the Role:
The Plant Supervisor will oversee daily operations of the recycling processing facility, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant material sorting, processing, and distribution. This hands-on leadership role involves managing a team of 15-25 operators and technicians, optimizing workflows, and driving performance metrics to meet production targets while upholding environmental standards. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical knowledge and history of managing production teams to achieve goals.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct plant staff, including scheduling shifts, assigning tasks, and conducting performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team.
- Monitor and optimize recycling operations, including sorting, shredding, baling, and quality control of materials such as plastics, metals, paper, and organics.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., EPA guidelines), health and safety standards (OSHA), and company policies.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, coordinate maintenance with technicians, and implement preventive measures to minimize downtime.
- Manage inventory of raw materials and finished recyclables, coordinating with logistics for inbound/outbound shipments.
- Train employees on safe operating procedures, waste handling best practices, and emergency response protocols.
- Conduct regular facility audits, report on operational metrics, and lead root-cause analyses for any incidents or inefficiencies.
- Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement within the team.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 5+ years in manufacturing, waste management, construction or recycling operations
- 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency with operating several forms of equipment: forklift, skid steer, crane/excavator, spotter truck or similar.
- Valid forklift certification and CDL license
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and communication.
- Experience using other workplace software tools to manage payroll, inventory, safety, and trucking logistics.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- OSHA safety training or willingness to obtain additional certifications.
- Leadership and interpersonal skills needed to lead diverse teams and resolve conflicts.
- Strong understanding of equipment repair and maintenance.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial environment, including occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and exposure to outdoor weather.
