Nippon Express – Alterations Department (Sewing & Garment Specialist)
Position Summary
The Alterations Department Associate is responsible for performing detailed garment alterations, repairs, and quality inspections with a strong focus on fabric work and sewing. Sewing Machine experience a plus. This role is centered on apparel modification and craftsmanship, ensuring all products meet precise client specifications and quality standards.
Spanish speaking or Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform garment alterations and repairs, primarily on bottoms (pants, jeans, etc.)
- Operate sewing equipment to execute high-quality modifications
- Conduct detailed quality inspections on fabric, stitching, and overall garment construction
- Execute alterations including hemming, resizing, seam adjustments, and repairs
- Perform fabric cutting using both hand tools and electric cutters
- Ensure all finished products meet client specifications and quality expectations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation
- Follow all SOPs and quality control procedures
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience using sewing machines ( industrial experience preferred, specifically JUKI machines)
- Experience working with bottom garments, including:
- Polyester
- Cotton
- Denim (jeans)
- Proficiency in the following stitching techniques:
- Hidden stitch
- Cutoff stitch
- Visible stitch
- Chain stitch
- Experience with fabric cutting, both:
- Manual (hand cutting)
- Electric cutting tools
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in tailoring, garment production, or textile manufacturing
- Experience in high-volume alteration or production environments
- Ability to interpret garment specs or alteration instructions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while operating sewing equipment
- Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
- Ability to handle repetitive motions and light lifting as needed

- Production/alterations setting focused on sewing and garment handling (not traditional warehouse work)
