Nippon Express – Alterations Department (Sewing & Garment Specialist)

Position Summary

The Alterations Department Associate is responsible for performing detailed garment alterations, repairs, and quality inspections with a strong focus on fabric work and sewing. Sewing Machine experience a plus. This role is centered on apparel modification and craftsmanship, ensuring all products meet precise client specifications and quality standards.

Spanish speaking or Bilingual English/Spanish a plus. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform garment alterations and repairs, primarily on bottoms (pants, jeans, etc.)
  • Operate sewing equipment to execute high-quality modifications
  • Conduct detailed quality inspections on fabric, stitching, and overall garment construction
  • Execute alterations including hemming, resizing, seam adjustments, and repairs
  • Perform fabric cutting using both hand tools and electric cutters
  • Ensure all finished products meet client specifications and quality expectations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation
  • Follow all SOPs and quality control procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience using sewing machines ( industrial experience preferred, specifically JUKI machines)
  • Experience working with bottom garments, including:
    • Polyester
    • Cotton
    • Denim (jeans)
  • Proficiency in the following stitching techniques:
    • Hidden stitch
    • Cutoff stitch
    • Visible stitch
    • Chain stitch
  • Experience with fabric cutting, both:
    • Manual (hand cutting)
    • Electric cutting tools
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in tailoring, garment production, or textile manufacturing
  • Experience in high-volume alteration or production environments
  • Ability to interpret garment specs or alteration instructions

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while operating sewing equipment
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
  • Ability to handle repetitive motions and light lifting as needed

  • Production/alterations setting focused on sewing and garment handling (not traditional warehouse work)
