ABOUT THE ROLE
The Wave Planner / Control Desk Clerk prepares and flows the workload throughout the shift and verifies that all orders are released in order of departure time and/or leadership priority. This role primarily works in HighJump Warehouse Management System (WMS), with potential to work in other related applications/integrations as needed.
This position is the “point person” supporting Control Desk Operations—helping control the flow of work to the team in the assigned functional area to execute activities accurately, efficiently, safely, and on time, while providing continuous status updates and feedback to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
Position Specifics:
This is a full-time position. Shift start/stop times may vary depending on department and business needs. Initial schedules are not guaranteed to be permanent. Any changes will be communicated with at least two weeks’ notice. Typical shifts are 8 hours but may require overtime as needed.
SHIFT TIMES
- Monday – Friday | 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (Shift C)
- Overtime may be assigned/required based on business needs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and process wave(s) throughout the shift
- Verify all orders are released in order of departure time and/or leadership priority; ensure loads are completed
- Monitor replenishment and picking to keep work balanced according to wave number (shift resources when applicable)
- Monitor shorts and run supplemental orders to capture items not picked the first time
- Manage wave cycle time and process waves to prevent work stoppages; set up next shift’s wave work
- Communicate exceptions or potential service-level misses to the manager/supervisor in charge
- Ensure communication between Order Pickers and Replenishers for replenishment needs
- Coordinate with traffic/routing team to contact carriers and route orders
- Verify outbound orders are captured in the outbound shipping log
- Review outbound shipping log vs. actual pickups; confirm pickups and/or contact carriers for updates
- Other duties as assigned
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency (written & oral) required
- Excellent technical, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong computer literacy, analytical and problem-solving skills
- WMS knowledge ( HighJump preferred)
- Experience with freight routing and routing guides (big-box/large retail experience preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret documents (safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, procedure manuals)
- Ability to write routine reports/correspondence and speak effectively to groups
- Strong math skills (add/subtract/multiply/divide; compute rate/ratio/percent)
- Ability to follow written/oral/diagram instructions and solve problems with multiple variables
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have any leadership requirements and/or responsibilities. This position does provide input to Warehouse Supervisors who will address any performance issues/concerns.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is active and may require standing for long periods, constant movement throughout the warehouse, pushing/pulling carts with cartons, bending/stooping/kneeling/crouching, and regularly lifting/moving up to 20 pounds. The environment can be noisy (forklift traffic/honking) and may experience hot/cold temperature fluctuations due to outside weather. Candidates must be able to observe details at close range and communicate clearly to exchange accurate information.
