About the Role:
Federal Signal, a leading manufacturer of safety and environmental solutions, is hiring for the position of Utility Operator at their Paint Shop in University Park, IL. As a Utility Operator, you’ll support key operations in powder coating and spray painting of metal parts used in critical equipment and vehicles. This hands-on role involves prep, mixing, application, inspection, and maintenance of finishing systems and materials.

Pay Rate: $20.26/hour - $22.30/hour, DOE

Available Shift Times:
  • Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 10:30pm
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and apply powder coating to various parts by hand or using automated spray systems
  • Mix coating materials to achieve color, consistency, and viscosity standards
  • Operate paint booths and automated paint equipment
  • Monitor and adjust conveyor speed, air pressure, and temperatures
  • Clean and maintain paint guns, nozzles, and tanks
  • Load/unload parts and inspect for quality and finish
  • Prepare surfaces and perform routine titration tests on prep tanks
  • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean work area
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to use hand/power tools and material handling equipment
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team and follow detailed instructions
  • Must pass a Fitness for Duty test
  • Basic computer skills and use of web-based systems
  • Physically able to stand, walk, reach, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Comfortable working in a loud environment around fumes and mechanical equipment
  • Must wear required PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection
