Job Summary
The Fabrication/Welding Lead is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the fabrication and welding department. This role ensures production targets are met, weld quality and fabrication standards are upheld, and team members are trained and supported. The Lead serves as the key link between shop floor employees and management, promoting safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of fabricators, welders, and assemblers.
  • Assign work orders, monitor progress, and adjust resources to meet production schedules.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to ensure accuracy.
  • Inspect fabricated and welded products for quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Enforce safety standards and maintain OSHA compliance throughout the department.
  • Provide hands-on support in fabrication and welding when necessary.
  • Train, mentor, and coach team members to enhance skills and overall department performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations to resolve production or technical challenges.
  • Ensure fabrication and welding equipment is properly maintained; request repairs as needed.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve workflow, and increase efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit shift production reports, communicating progress and issues to management.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in fabrication or welding preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of fabrication and welding experience, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Strong proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding; knowledge of fabrication techniques and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, delegate, and motivate team members.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily on the shop floor in a fabrication/welding environment.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, welding fumes, and moving machinery.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and welding helmet.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional overtime, shift work, or weekend work to meet production demands.
  • Frequent use of welding and fabrication tools, hand tools, and measuring equipment.
